12.29.2019 | "Books and Beyond" Cable TV Interview Airs

Jim Bennett is not only a great chef, he also co-chairs a regional chapter of the Connecticut Authors & Publishers Association and hosts a biweekly cable TV interview show. Len was invited to discuss Celtic Crossing in context of his career in childhood cancer care, research, and drug development. The episode was filmed on December 29, airs periodically for two weeks, and can be viewed anytime on YouTube.


12.12.2019 | St. Mary Student Parish Newsletter Article Published

The Alumni Spotlight feature in the St. Mary Student Parish (Ann Arbor MI) Campus Connection Newsletter Fall 2019 issue highlighted Len's experiences while in medical training and the genesis of Celtic Crossing. Len and his wife were married in the parish the day after he graduated from the University of Michigan Medical School. They remained in Ann Arbor to complete their studies before moving to Kalamazoo in 1991.

10.25.2019 | St. Baldrick's Foundation CEO Posts Author Q&A

Kathleen Ruddy, CEO of St. Baldrick's Foundation, recently spoke with Len about the writing of Celtic Crossing and its meaning to him as both author and pediatric oncologist. 10.10.2019 | Indiana and Ireland Author Events Scheduled

The University of Notre Dame, home of the Fighting Irish, will host an author event on the evening of Thursday, October 17, at the Geddes Hall Coffee Shop. Celtic Crossing: A Quest for the Meaning of Life in the Context of Death is open to all. An author Meet & Greet will take place at Alan Hanna's Bookshop in Rathmines, Lower Dublin, on Tuesday, October 29. This independent shop is featured in the novel. See details at Events.

09.19.2019 | Michigan and Ireland Author Events Scheduled

Events hosted by the University of Michigan Medical School, WMU Homer Stryker School of Medicine, and Kalamazoo College are now on Len's book tour schedule for October. Celtic Crossing: A Literary Exploration of Spirituality and Religion in the Terminally Ill will take place on the evening of Tuesday, October 15, at the Ann Arbor District Library's downtown facility. Family Cancer Syndrome: 50 Years of Lessons is the title of Pediatric Grand Rounds on Friday morning, October 18, at Bronson Gilmore Center Auditorium. Later that morning, Len will share insights on his career transition From Oncologist to Novelist during the weekly Community Reflection at Stetson Chapel on the K College campus. Editor Nancy Burns-Fusaro of The Westerly Sun covered the release of Celtic Crossing with a feature in today's issue. The article closed with an invitation to attend the book launch event at Enders Island on Sunday, September 22.


09.17.2019 | Celtic Crossing Officially Released

Len is pleased to announce that his debut novel, Celtic Crossing, has reached store bookshelves nationwide. Also available online in paper and digital formats, those who pre-ordered copies will receive them this week. 09.04.2019 | Author Promotes Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

Celtic Crossing, Len Mattano's new inspirational suspense novel, will be showcased by St. Baldrick's Foundation during September’s Children's Oncology Group meeting in Atlanta. This gripping story is about a grandmother and grandson—last of a long Irish lineage plagued by cancer—on quest to find the ancient curing cross of Saint Patrick in time to save the child. Family cancer syndrome is real: those with the inherited condition are at an extraordinary risk for cancer. As a pediatric oncologist, Mattano hopes that Celtic Crossing will both promote Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and encourage readers to contemplate universal themes affecting us all. Patrons of Savoy Bookstore & Café and Sherman's Maine Coast Book Shops will have the opportunity to meet the author, hear about Celtic Crossing, and have copies signed during three fall events. Len will be in Boothbay Harbor ME the afternoon of September 28, Damariscotta ME the afternoon of October 1, and Westerly RI the evening of November 13. See details at Events.


08.22.2019 | Southwest Michigan Author Event Scheduled

Celtic Crossing: An Author Event with Dr. Len Mattano will take place at Bronson Gilmore Center in downtown Kalamazoo on the afteroon of Sunday, October 20. All are welcome to join the festivities, including a talk, reading, and book signing. Book sales provided by this is a bookstore, Kalamazoo's independent bookstore. See details at Events.


07.04.2019 | Video Trailers on YouTube

Video trailers highlighting the contemporary, biblical, and historical storylines of Celtic Crossing are featured on Len's YouTube channel and posted on the Multimedia tab of this website. The first went live on April 7, the second today, and the third set for August 1. Viewers will be immersed in worlds old and new, transported by selections from The Protecting Veil, an orchestral suite by Sir John Tavener.


04.04.2019 | Launch Event Scheduled

The official launch of Celtic Crossing will be celebrated the afternoon of September 22 at Enders Island, Mystic CT. Len will greet the public, read an excerpt from the novel, and sign copies. The author is indebted to Fr. Tom Hoar for graciously hosting this seaside event. Cohosted by Mystic's own Bank Square Books. See details at Events.


03.08.2019 | Celtic Crossing Release Date Announced

Paraclete Press has set a release date of September 17 for Len's new inspirational suspense novel, Celtic Crossing. Advance orders are available through the publisher and online booksellers now, and will appear in bookstores on release.
